Thundering timbres and ethereal electronics retell an age-old prose within Stryker Matthews’ Regen that spans a breadth of experience beyond his home base of Los Angeles. The caustic club of ‘Spirals Stay Spiraling’ recharts a distant memory of New York’s mania-driven afterhours scene before setting course for London on the title track’s hard-drum tempos. The bubbling sirens of ‘Big Like A Mountain’ wind in momentum, resolving the drum-lined odyssey in a familiar present that’s uncertain yet optimistic for what’s to come.

‘Prueba’ unfolds a more recent era in Los Angeles, filled with time-stamped rhythms inspired by the blown-out reggaeton heard along disparate urban highways and crevices of warehouses in decay. Former LA scene stalwart Kelman Duran’s remix offers a pensive understanding of these sonics, weaving the release together to ask: what have we become? Where are we headed?

These questions envelope Regen’s caverns and rifts, offering both a point of reflection and opportunity for new beginning.

Stryker Matthews’ Regen is out via Trax Couture March 3rd on Bandcamp with a wider release coming in January. Bandcamp proceeds will go to benefit IMMDEF.
